Fresas con crema is the easiest Mexican dessert you’ll ever make! Made with fresh strawberries mixed into a sweet and creamy sauce, this recipe is ready to eat in only 10 minutes. Only 5 ingredients needed!

A Note from Isabel

Every summer growing up, my family made the trip to Mexico to visit my grandparents and other relatives, and fresas con crema was always one of my favorite things to eat from local fruit stands. Just fresh strawberries in a sweet cream sauce, served cold.
When I figured out how to make it myself at home, I knew I had to share the recipe. It takes less than 10 minutes and only a handful of ingredients, but somehow it always hits the spot. It’s the kind of dessert I make when I need something sweet after dinner and don’t want to think too hard about it.
And honestly, it’s right up there with tres leches cake and arroz con leche as one of my all-time favorite Mexican desserts.
What Is Fresas con Crema?
Fresas con crema, or strawberries and cream, is a popular Mexican no-bake dessert made from freshly sliced strawberries mixed into a sweetened cream sauce.
The cream sauce is made by whisking together a few easy-to-find ingredients: sour cream, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract.
The end result is a sauce that’s easily pourable, light and thin, but with a sweet and rich flavor similar to that of ice cream! It pairs perfectly with fresh strawberries but could also be served with any fresh berries or fruit like peaches.

How to Make Fresas Con Crema
- Slice strawberries into thin, round slices.
- Whisk together sour cream, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla.
- Scoop 1/2 cup of sliced strawberries into a cup or bowl, then top with 1/2 cup of sweetened cream mixture.
Substitutions and Variations
While all of the ingredients in this recipe are fairly easy to find, here are some ingredient variations that could also work:
- Instead of full-fat sour cream, you could also use light or nonfat sour cream, plain Greek yogurt, or creme fraiche.
- Instead of evaporated milk, you could use whole milk or half-and-half. Some traditional versions of fresas con crema use media crema (Mexican table cream) instead of evaporated milk. It’s sold in small cans, and you can usually find it in the Latin aisle or at a Hispanic grocery store. If you want to try it, swap it 1:1 for the evaporated milk. It gives the sauce a slightly richer, creamier texture.
- Don’t have fresh strawberries? You could use frozen strawberries (make sure to thaw them before mixing them with the cream) or another fruit like blueberries, raspberries, or peaches.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is fresas con crema?
Fresas con crema is a classic Mexican dessert made with fresh strawberries and a sweet, creamy sauce. You’ll find it at Mexican ice cream shops and street food stalls all over Mexico. It’s made with just a few ingredients and comes together in about 10 minutes. - Can I make fresas con crema ahead of time?
Yes. Make the cream sauce up to 3 days ahead and refrigerate it covered. Slice the strawberries the day you’re serving. Assemble right before you eat so the strawberries stay fresh and the sauce stays thick. - Can I use frozen strawberries?
Fresh is better here since the texture really matters, but frozen works in a pinch. Thaw completely and drain off the extra liquid before using. - How long does fresas con crema last?
Once assembled, it’s best within 24 hours. The strawberries soften and release juice, which thins the cream over time.
How to Store Fresas con Crema
Store the cream sauce and the strawberries separately if you can. The cream keeps in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
Once mixed with the strawberries, eat it within 24 hours. The berries soften fast and release juice, which thins the sauce over time.
