Made with only 5 ingredients, this Frozen Margarita recipe is cold, slushy, frosty and delicious! Perfect for cooling down and relaxing on those hot, sunny days.
It’s cold, it’s slushy, it’s refreshing and boozy – it’s my favorite frozen margarita recipe!
When it’s hot outside and a regular cocktail just won’t do, this frosty marg is a lifesaver. Made with only 4 ingredients, this recipe is a take on my Classic Margarita Recipe but with a frozen twist! My favorite thing about these is that they’re easy to make and perfect for enjoying on hot summer days and fun weekends with friends.
Simply imagining myself relaxing in the shade with frozen margarita in one hand and a good book in the other instantly lifts my mood! That’s how good they are. 🙂
Making this frozen margarita recipe is actually a huge step for me because I’m not usually a slushie person. Frozen and blended drinks have never been something I’ve craved. Most of the time, frozen and blended cocktails that I order at restaurants are too sweet for my liking and I always end up throwing away half of the drink because it’s always served in a huge glass! Are those huge glasses really necessary? I don’t get it.
So I took it upon myself to make a frozen drink that isn’t too sweet, has the perfect amount of alcohol and is refreshing. And I did it! Here’s how to make it.
How to make frozen margaritas
- Place 1 cup tequila, 1 cup lime juice, 1/2 cup triple sec, 2 tablespoons agave syrup (or other sweetener) and 6 cups ice in a large blender.
- Blend until slushy and pour into 4 glasses.
- Serve immediately.
Isn’t that super easy? I like to think of this as the basic frozen margarita. Once you’ve got this recipe, you can really customize it to your liking and add any flavors that you want. Add in some frozen strawberries, mango slices, mixed berries, pineapple, anything! Just be sure to add them frozen so the drink keeps its slushy consistency.

Yum! These were refreshing and delicious (not too sweet)! Perfection for my taste buds!
Here is another recipe you should try. NOT boozy koolaid, but lip smacking delicious.
1 part Cointreau
2 part 100% agave tequila
3 parts POM Wonderful
1 part lime juice
If your “parts” are ounces, add them with 3 of 4 cups of ice to a blender and make a slushee. YUM!
If you will just leave out the agave nectar, you will have a classic margarita. No sweetener necessary. If you use Cointreau instead of the sweeter triple sec brands, it will be even better.
Doubled the agave syrup and used one cup of ice per drink.
I used a non-caloric sweetener (I’m diabetic), but otherwise followed the recipe exactly. Delicious.
this is a fantastic recipe. I didn’t follow the ice quantity…I just kept adding until desired consistency.
I used blue agave clear tequila which worked really nicely. Thanks Isabel!

This was great!!!! Works just as well in December, too!
4 tablespoons of syrup wasnt enough for me, it was extremely bitter. But also I wasn’t using agave syrup since that was too expensive, but instead using something else, so maybe that was my problem? Anyways, I ended up adding 1 cup + 1/2 cup of syrup total, and I got it to taste perfect.
So thank you for the recipe, it all worked out in the end, and it’s very tasty.
Be sure you’re using the right tequila too! I used Carrera which I believe is what she used. It was really good.

You don’t mention (which is important for any recipe) how many servings you get.
Hi Lynn! When you scroll down to the recipe page, on the top of the recipe page it indicates our serving sizes. This recipe makes 4 drinks. I hope this helps!
This Frozen Margarita recipe is cold, slushy, frosty and delicious!
Absolutely delicious! This was one of the best margaritas I’ve ever had. I made two adjustments. I used 100% maple syrup instead of agave, and I added some lime zest to the blender.
These were absolutely delicious. So fresh and the perfect amount of sweetness. This recipe will definitely be a staple for me!
Easy to make it. I try it twice a week. Thanks for your sharing!
What is the shelf life of these margaritas in the freezer?
Hi! I’d only recommend storing these in your freezer for about 1-2 weeks.
Perfect. Thoroughly enjoyed them last night! Individuals added more simple syrup to taste. Thank you!
I’ve made this with both sweetened lime juice and straight lime juice and it has worked perfectly for lazy margaritas. It’s pretty important to have (frozen) margarita glasses cuz they are designed in a way to keep the slushy ice from separating from the liquid but they are still drinkable in tall glasses. Just keep stirring before you take a sip.
Also, in response to Kc. Why are you using top shelf liquor in a mixed drink? Top shelf liquor is supposed to be enjoyed on its own. Get some lime wedges, a line of salt on your knuckle, and a shotglass instead if you’re worried about watering something down.
Had better. To much ice watered down my good tequila. Had to add more tequila. I also added my traditional top shelf stock of grand marnier and Cointreau so not to waste my tequila.
Should have read your comments. Here we are on Cinco de Mayo with watered down tequilla in fancy glasses.
Boo.
Can a batch be made/mixed ahead of time (minus the ice) and then blended when needed or will it not taste well? Have a 50+ people party and I won’t have time to mix every single time someone wants a margarita.
Yes, you can make the mix minus the ice first. Be sure to refrigerate the mix until you can blend it with the ice.
Doubled recipe and added 6 cups of frozen strawberries- poker night loved it!
